Ovarian Cancer Is An Important Reason to Remember Your Annual Gynecological Exams

The American Cancer Society, often called ACS, is a nationwide community-based voluntary cancer health organization. ACS has state divisions and more than 3,400 local offices. The American Cancer Society’s most recent estimates for ovarian cancer in the United States are for 2009. Their predictions? About 21,550 new cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed, and about 14,600 ovarian cancer related deaths will occur.

Ovarian cancer is a cancer that starts in the ovaries, the female reproductive organs that produce eggs. Its symptoms are often vague, and in many instances the tumor has spread beyond the ovaries the time the cancer is diagnosed.

These statistics, along with the fact that ovarian cancer ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women, should be an eye opener for many women. It’s been estimated that the average woman has a chance of about 1 in 95 of dying from invasive ovarian cancer. It is extremely important for women to receive annual gynecological checkups to diagnose problems while they have time to be treated.

We here at Awareness Gift Boutique have been personally affected by cancer and other life-threatening diseases, and we strive to promote acceptance and awareness of all conditions, including ovarian cancer.

Get out your teal ribbons and show your support of all those women affected by ovarian cancer. These T-shirts are just a sampling of what we have to offer in our ovarian cancer awareness section.
