Prevent Cervical Cancer with Annual Pap Smears

Although the same can be said about any type of cancer or medical condition, cervical cancer is extremely frightening because it often has no symptoms in the early stages, meaning that it’s often left undetected until it has advanced greatly.

Cervical cancer starts in the cervix— the lower part of the uterus, or womb— that opens at the top of the vagina, and as mentioned above, cervical cancer often has no symptoms. Symptoms that can occur in the early stages include:

  • Continuous vaginal discharge, which may be pale, watery, pink, brown, bloody, or foul-smelling
  • Abnormal vaginal bleeding between periods, after intercourse, or after menopause
  • Periods become heavier and last longer than usual
  • Any bleeding after menopause

Once cervical cancer has progressed to advanced stages, symptoms may include:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Pelvic pain
  • Back pain
  • Leg pain
  • Single swollen leg
  • Heavy bleeding from the vagina
  • Leaking of urine or feces from the vagina
  • Bone fractures

Cervical cancer is the third most common type of cancer in women in the world, but it is much less common in the United States because of routine Pap smears. That statistic alone should make women realize the importance of annual gynecological exams. Additionally, a relatively new vaccine to prevent cervical cancer is now available— Gardasil is the first approved vaccine targeted specifically to prevent a type of cancer.

Awareness Gift Boutique's exclusive line of cervical cancer awareness and support T-shirts and gifts feature eye-catching teal and white cervical cancer awareness ribbons, along with powerful slogans and inspiring themes.

Uterine Cancer Awareness: Join the Fight with a Peach Support Ribbon

Uterine cancer, also known as endometrial cancer, is a cancer that forms in the tissue lining the uterus—the organ in a woman's pelvis in which a fetus develops when she becomes pregnant. The National Cancer Institute estimates that 43,470 new cases of uterine cancer will be diagnosed in 2010 and 7,950 uterine cancer related deaths will occur. These shocking figures alone are enough reason to learn about uterine cancer.

Most uterine cancers are known as adenocarcinomas-- cancers that begin in cells that make and release mucus and other fluids—and most instances of uterine cancer occur in women that have already gone through menopause, but keep in mind that this is not always the case.

A few common symptoms of uterine cancer include:
• Unusual vaginal bleeding or discharge
• Trouble urinating
• Pelvic pain
• Pain during intercourse

Unfortunately, these symptoms are also things that many women experience for other reasons. That is why it’s extremely important for women to undergo annual gynecological examinations. Catching cancers as soon as possible is one of the keys to successful treatment.

Uterine cancer treatment can vary on a woman’s overall health, how advanced the cancer is and whether hormones affect its growth. Treatment is most often a hysterectomy, which is surgery to remove the uterus. Other treatment options include hormone therapy and radiation.

Awareness Gift Boutique urges you to join the fight and wear a peach ribbon in support of uterine cancer awareness. We offer a vast assortment of clothing and gifts appropriate for those fighting uterine cancer as well as their loved ones and loyal supporters.

PCOS is More Common than You May Imagine

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, often called PCOS, is a condition in which multiple small cysts on a woman's ovaries can affect her ability to get pregnant. PCOS is a condition which affects approximately 5% to 10% of women of reproductive age.

Even though PCOS is considered to be one of the leading causes of female infertility, it's often an embarrassing topic for women to discuss openly. One female "celebrity" with PCOS is Kate Gosselin, the tabloid headliner of the former TLC reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8. Gosselin's struggles with PCOS are the reason that she had to undergo fertility treatments in order to conceive her children with ex-husband Jon.

PCOS affects a woman's hormones, so a few of the symptoms of PCOS may include:
  • abnormal absent menstrual periods
  • decreased breast size
  • increased body hair growth
  • development of male sex characteristics
  • an inability to conceive.
Regular gynecological checkups are crucial for all women, particularly if you feel you may have PCOS.

Awareness Gift Boutique understands the frustrations of living with PCOS or any other health issue, and our collection of beautiful PCOS Awareness products can supply you with a great way to raise awareness of your own condition or show your support for a loved one.

These T-shirts are just a few of many that we have available:

Ovarian Cancer Is An Important Reason to Remember Your Annual Gynecological Exams

The American Cancer Society, often called ACS, is a nationwide community-based voluntary cancer health organization. ACS has state divisions and more than 3,400 local offices. The American Cancer Society’s most recent estimates for ovarian cancer in the United States are for 2009. Their predictions? About 21,550 new cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed, and about 14,600 ovarian cancer related deaths will occur.

Ovarian cancer is a cancer that starts in the ovaries, the female reproductive organs that produce eggs. Its symptoms are often vague, and in many instances the tumor has spread beyond the ovaries the time the cancer is diagnosed.

These statistics, along with the fact that ovarian cancer ranks fifth in cancer deaths among women, should be an eye opener for many women. It’s been estimated that the average woman has a chance of about 1 in 95 of dying from invasive ovarian cancer. It is extremely important for women to receive annual gynecological checkups to diagnose problems while they have time to be treated.

We here at Awareness Gift Boutique have been personally affected by cancer and other life-threatening diseases, and we strive to promote acceptance and awareness of all conditions, including ovarian cancer.

Get out your teal ribbons and show your support of all those women affected by ovarian cancer. These T-shirts are just a sampling of what we have to offer in our ovarian cancer awareness section.
